About us

Built by students who know the exam

Sinapse began with students who got into medical school: they made it through the entrance exams and still handle a huge amount of material in an extremely busy routine. Founded by medical students at UFPE, it turns an evidence-based study method into technology.

Who is Maria Helena

In Portuguese, with Portuguese captions.

From Recife, she spent her whole life studying at UFPE and didn't get in on her first try. On the way there, she learned the difference between studying a lot and studying right: doing questions and coming back to each subject at the right time.

Now she is going through it all again, preparing for her medical residency, and she uses Sinapse every day. Every product decision is weighed by someone who knows firsthand the pressure of a high-stakes exam.

  1. Colégio de Aplicação da UFPE

From 6th grade to the last year of high school.

  2. Full scholarship at FPS

With her ENEM score, at Faculdade Pernambucana de Saúde.

  3. Medicine at UFPE

Admitted the same year through general admission, not a quota seat. Now in her final stretch of medical school.

  4. Medical residency

Her preparation now, with Sinapse every day.

That is where Sinapse came from: medical students who lost too much time working out what to study and when, and chose to turn that method into a platform.

You log what you studied, Sinapse measures your performance and schedules each session. Your effort goes into studying, not into planning it.

Built on the science of how the brain learns

The Sinapse algorithm stands on three fields of knowledge.

  1. Neuroscience of memory

The brain forgets in a predictable way. Sinapse schedules each session for the moment that content starts to slip, when studying it again sticks better and costs less.

  2. Cognitive science of learning

Solving questions, rather than just rereading, is one of the best-supported study techniques. That is why each session builds on how you actually do on questions.

  3. Mathematical modeling

The interval until the next session combines three variables: your percentage of correct answers, the difficulty you felt and the subject's relevance. With every cycle, the interval is recalculated to fit your pace.

The result is a study plan that rearranges itself, so your time goes into learning rather than deciding what to study.

More than 50,000 study sessions already scheduled on Sinapse

By students and by mentoring programs that prepare students for ENEM. Sinapse exists to bring them the same tool we use.
